![]() To determine the taxable base and to fulfil this objective, this option envisages a limited list of tax adjustments to the income reported in the financial statements of group entities falling under BEFIT. The BEFIT initiative aims to establish a simpler, yet effective, common corporate tax system in the EU. With this in mind, the Commission will examine how the BEFIT formula for profit allocation would best be applied to the financial services sector. To ensure that BEFIT brings about the intended simplification and benefits as many businesses as possible, the Commission’s preference is to have limited sectoral carveouts. These SMEs could opt in to BEFIT to benefit from common EU rules on the tax base and allocation of profits. A wider scope would be of particular interest to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with cross-border activities or those that envisage scaling up and starting shortly to operate across borders.
